Week 7: Early Letterform Thumbnail Sketches

 100 Words:

Alpha (uppercase Α and lowercase α) is the first letter of the Greek alphabet. It emerged from the Phoenician letter aleph and it holds a value of 1 in the Greek numeral system. Due to its Greek origin, the noun "alpha" is used as a synonym for "beginning" or "first" (in a series) in English. The absorption factor, area, angles, and coefficients are all represented by the alpha symbol. It also has a strong religious connotation when used in the form of God's declaration "I am the Alpha and Omega," which means "I am the beginning and the end of everything."
